Founded in 1845, Blue Springs is tied to the westward migration of settlers across the country. It was ideal due to a natural spring in the Little Blue River and the cool, clean water it offered to all that traveled through. Hence the origination of Blue Springs. In 1878, the Chicago and Alton railroad made plans to build a train station a mile from the original settlement. The town decided to move to the site of the new station to take advantage of the commerce the railroad would bring in to continue its development as a rural trading center. Today Blue Springs has grown considerably and continues to thrive. Blue Springs has over 20 city parks that offer a wide variety of recreational activities for everyone including tennis and basketball courts, dog park, soccer fields, skate parks, trails, disc golf, softball and baseball fields and much more. Camping and other outdoor adventures, as well as golfing, are also activities that are enjoyed in Blue Springs. Many natives have nurtured our neighborhoods with everything from a wide variety of restaurants, boutiques, shopping, bowling and climbing. Many public art structures and murals are scattered throughout Blue Springs. The seasonal farmers market runs May – October every year.
