Harrisonville was founded in 1837 upon land donated to Cass County by Congress for county purposes, and was named for Congressman Albert G. Harrison, who was instrumental in obtaining the land grant. The Harrisonville Courthouse Square Historic District contains 37 buildings, 34 of which contribute to the historic architectural qualities of the district. Though there have been alterations to the storefronts, the district still maintains its historic workmanship and location. Harrisonville has gone through many changes throughout the years and had much progress and growth along the way. Little Shops flourish throughout all of Harrisonville. Harrisonville also has many great city parks that include: soccer, baseball, softball and football fields, playgrounds, rodeo arena, trap and skeet range, dog park, a fishing lake, amphitheater, public aquatic facilities (outdoor and indoor) and a golf course. You can also find a movie theater, thrift stores, antique shops, restaurants and much more. Harrisonville is located about 40 minutes due south of downtown Kansas City.
